KUALA TERENGGANU: Commu-nity projects ranging from education advancement to cultural and heritage conservation have been carried out by CIMB Bank as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme since 2007.
Regional director (consumer sales and distribution) Awaluddin Md Yassin said the banking group had started 300 community projects nationwide, with contributions worth RM12.5mil for community-linked projects that also include family development, conserving the environment and healthcare events.
The programmes come under the CIMB Foundation, which was launched three years ago, he said at the opening of a photography exhibition, themed “Mycause: Photos That Make a Difference” at SMK Sultan Sulaiman here yesterday.
Awaluddin said the foundation had carried out 10 community projects in Terengganu over the years, which include a fire prevention workshop for children, an eco-tourism river expedition, programmes to conserve turtles, a Parkinson’s rehabilitation programme and aid to flood victims in Jerteh.
“We are receptive to programmes benefiting the people and our bank staff are willing to render assistance in identifying and organising appropriate community projects,” he said.
The exhibition features some 4,000 photographs and includes an award-winning picture by SMK Sultan Sulaiman ex-student Ronny Izwani Husni.
In conjunction with the event, CIMB presented a year’s sponsorship of The Star’s Newspaper in Education (NIE) to school principal Zakaria Awang.
